A total of 35 species of medicinal plants propagated mainly through seeds were short-listed for conservation in the Seed Gene Bank. Seed samples were collected from various sources such as wild, seed collectors, Herb Garden and other ex situ conservation sites. At present, seeds of 96 accessions belonging to 35 species have been deposited in the Seed Gene Bank. The viability of the seeds is being monitored quarterly by germination tests.

Out of the 20 species of seeds stored for one year, seeds of Holostemma ada-kodien, Abrus precatorius, Trichosanthes cucumerina and Pseudarthria viscida showed more than 90% germination.  Seeds of Indigofera tinctoria, Oroxylum indicum and Holarrhena pubescens showed less than 40% germination. Rest of the species showed a germination percentage between the above range.
