Research Experience/Expertise

18 years research experience in Plant Anatomy, Tissue culture and Pharmacognosy

Started her research work in 1988 at University of Calicut and completed Ph.D in 1994 in the area of Plant anatomy and tissue culture. After Ph.D she worked in the ICAR research institute, Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) Calicut as SRF and then as Research Associate for 5 years. During the period 1999-2003 she worked as Scientist-B in a project funded by Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Source (MNES) at Biomass Research Centre, Department of Botany, University of Calicut, where she was doing the Biotechnological approaches for micropropagation and production of stress-tolerant lines of tree species. In addition, she worked as guest lecturer and resource person in Department of Botany and Plantation Development, University of Calicut and has been engaged in teaching Plant Anatomy and Biotechnology for P.G. Students. At present she is working as Senior scientist and heading the Pharmacognosy and Anatomy division, engaged in Anatomical standardization of medicinal plants using digitized anatomical markers for the scientific identification, standardization and quality control of medicinal plants used in Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine. During her 18 years research period she has 56 research papers, in national and International journal to her credit. She has submitted 12 technical reports and produced 9 dissertations. She is the recognized research guide for Plant Science under Kannur University and a Member of PG Board of Examinations for Plantation Development of Calicut University.
