Research Experience/Expertise

9 years research experience in plant taxonomy and tissue culture. Experienced in Survey, Collection, Identification and Documentation of Rare, Endangered and Threatened plants from Western Ghats. Established a Field Gene Bank, Seed Gene Bank and an In vitro Gene Bank for Ayurvedic Medicinal Plants. Experienced in Characterisation of Germplasm collected from different agroclimatic zones of South India towards the identification of intraspecific variability and selection of elite clones for future domestication and industrial use. Experienced in micropropagation and in vitro conservation of medicinal plants and standardized protocols for the same in several medicinal plants.

  • Co-Principal Investigator of the projectSystematic study of the genus Salacia occurring in Kerala funded by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Govt. of Kerala.
  • Co-Principal Investigator of the project “Conservation, propagation, improvement and popularization of some rare, endangered and threatened medicinal plants” funded by Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL) as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.
  • Co-Principal Investigator of the project ‘Upgradation to Centre of Excellence in Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia and Drug Standardisation funded by Dept. of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India

  • Professor K. Unnikrishnan Endowment Award for securing First Rank in M.Sc. Plant Science, University of Calicut during the year 2000.
  • Dr. S.R. Yadav Award for the Best poster entitled “Notes on a Few Rare, Endemic and Threatened plants in the Western Ghats of Kerala and Tamilnadu”, XIVth National Seminar of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT), Trivandrum, Kerala, 29-31 December, 2004.
  • University Merit Scholarship for the year 1998-2000
  • Qualified State Eligibility Test (SET 2002) Conducted by Govt. of Kerala.
  • Best poster award (LIFE SCIENCE) for the research paper titled ‘Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) and Gas Chromatographic (GC) studies in different accessions of hemidesmus indicus (L.) R. Br. presented in the 21st Kerala science congress.
  • Best poster award (BIOTECHNOLOGY) for the research paper titled ‘In vitro conservation studies in Hemidesmus indicus (l.) R. Br., Decalepis hamiltonii Wight & Arn. and Utleria salicifolia Bedd. ex Hook.f. presented in the 22nd Kerala science congress.
